Thanks to YOUR support, our global TXT 4 PEACE/WRITE 4 PEACE campaign for the International Day of Peace on 21 September became a great success! We received more than 150.000 peace messages from nearly every country in the world – via text message, postcard or online.
As promised, we shared your thoughts on peace with world leaders when they met at the General Assembly in New York: The messages were displayed in the United Nations General Assembly Hall at the opening of the General Debate on 23 September and on all monitors in the UN Secretariat Building until 29 September.
The campaign goes on, so you, your friends and family can keep sending us your message of peace at
www.peaceday2008.org.
The messages will be displayed on the website; just have a look and see the messages there.
Thanks a million for all your support!
Your TXT 4 PEACE team
The International Day of Peace, established by the United Nations in 1981, is devoted to the commemoration and strengthening of the ideals of peace. In 2001, the organization set 21 September as a day of the annual observance of a global ceasefire and non-violence. People from all over the world celebrate the International Day of Peace in many different ways to show what a difference just one day of peace can make.
By sending a message you give permission to the United Nations to publish it in any media. See www.peaceday2008.org for the terms and conditions of the participation in the campaign.
